biography the Album, the Music, the Lyrics, the Sound... In 2004 the Helsinki-based rock group the Propellers was signed by Texicalli Records. The band’s debut album “Quick & Dirty” is scheduled for release in the December of 2005. In addition to the promotional single “Introducing Mr.Jones”, the album also includes a completely new version of the song “Love Hate”. Musically, the defining character of the album is the rare blend of instantly appealing melody hooks and a guitar-driven contemporary rock sound. This, in combination with the instantly recognizable vocal sound and the melodical qualities of the song-writing promises lasting listening appeal. Lyrically, the Propellers operates with a wider range than most contemporary rock bands; with stories from the obscure and hidden dimensions of life, of love gone wrong, of addiction and exclusion... but also of innocence and warmth The lyrics seem straightforward at first glance, but reveal more dimensions and depth as you dig a little deeper. From a sonic point of view, the Propellers is clearly a guitar/bass/drum -driven contemporary rock band. Having stated that, one of the most striking features of the band’s sound is the superb blending of the basic rock sounds with a wide range of instruments and other sound sources. The combination creates a straightforward and easily accessible sound that still has a surprising depth to it. the Beginning The Propellers was formed in 2000 as a collaboration between long-time friends and musical collaborators Christian Hellman and Niklas Nylund. They were soon joined by bass player Ville Valovirta and drummer Anssi Sopanen, and this line-up started to work on the band’s first album, later to be joined by guitarist Janne Halonen. In 2004 the band changed its name to the Propellers when it was found out that the original name Blofeld was already taken. In the spring of 2002 the band (calling itself Blofeld at the time) released a promotional single called “Love Hate”. The single was very well received and got extensive airplay on several Finnish radio stations. An interesting fact is that “Love Hate” was the first unpublished single ever to enter Radio Mafias A-list. It stayed on the A-list for 4 weeks with 4 more weeks on the B-list. The band made their live debut in February 2002, opening for Swedish top act Weeping Willows at Tavastia Club in Helsinki. The gig was broadcasted live on radio. Guitarist Janne Halonen joined the line-up in the spring of 2003 when the band was invited by the Swedish Music Publishers Association to play at Nalen/Alcatraz in Stockholm.
