The record is called "Vi sålde våra hemman" (We sold our homes and lands) and presents a variety of songs in Swedish, arranged in a modern jazz style.
"The idea of recording songs in Swedish has been growing in my head since a long time. We started the project with Ilmiliekki Quartet already in 2004, but only now it has matured into a long play album. The Swedish song tradition is full of enchanting melodies and fascinating stories that I want to preserve as a living tradition. Being bylingual, many of the songs are familiar to me from my childhood. My grandmother sang these songs, and I sing them to my child."
Composed songs with lyrics from poets such as Nils Ferlin, Jacob Tegengren and Edith Södergran are accompanied by traditional folk tunes on the album that was recorded in spring 2009.
The video was directed by Miika Saksi, and is due in November. See more of Miikas work at www.miikasaksi.com
