Emma participated in Complete Vocal Institutes summer course in Viapori

CVT continues to spread! Finlands first CVT summer course was held in Suomenlinna´s Paarlastihuone at the end of July. We heard some belting, growls, distortions, curbings and flageolets during the course of the week, and the general feeling was fun, encourageing and inspiring as usual! At the end of the week we held a concert at Restaurant "Yläkerho" on the island. In the picture you can see the participants of the course, plus our pianist Seppo Kantonen (who is covering his ears from all the belting), our teacher Christina LeCoq and the dog Baro, who passed the course with flying collars dispite all the noise! Thanks to all the participants for the good spirit and a great week!

the Ensemble plays new songs at Belly 15.8!

On Wednesday 15.8 at Restaurant Belly there´s a unique chance to hear new material from the coming album of Emma Salokoski Ensemble. The band has arranged 14 new songs that are planned to be recorded some time this fall. The compsers are Mikko Kosonen, Tuomo Prättälä, J.Karjalainen, Tuomari Nurmio, Sansa, Eero Heinonen, Olavi Louhivuori, Dave Lindholm, Janne Haavisto, Eeva Louhivuori and Markus Sandberg. About half of the songs have lyrics by Emma. Restaurant Belly can be found on Uudenmaankatu, almost at the corner of Annankatu. Tickets cost 10€, and can be bought in advance at Tiketti. Welcome!

Emmas summergigs

Emmas summer has been full of work, as usual! Emma has performed at Ilosaarirock, Ruisrock and Pori Jazz, and many other festivals. Still to come are for instance DBTL, Viapori Jazz and Faces. See more on "gigs".

Emma won an Emma in the cathegory of Female Vocalist of the Year!

The Emma-Gala, the Finnish equivalent of the Grammies, was held at Kulttuuritalo in Helsinki 10.3.07. Emma was nominated in two cathegories, and won the prize for Female Vocalist of the Year. Don Johnson Big Band was also awarded with an Emma. The Jazz-Emma prize went to the outstanding band Oddarrang! (See about Oddarrang at: “www.olavilouhivuori.com”

Emma started the 3-year education at Complete Vocal Institute in Copenhagen

Emma starts her educaton under supervision of Cathrine Sadolin (see picture). Emma is going to travel to Copenhagen six times a year for the following three years. The singer/teacher education gives competence to teach Complete Vocal Technique. (see about CVT at “www.sadolin.net”)

Emma nominated twice at the annual "Emma Gala".

Emma has been nominated in two categories at the annual Emma Gala, the Finnish equivalent for the Grammies.

Emma Salokoski Ensemble´s album "Kaksi mannerta" is nominated in the jazz category. Other nominees are Oddarrang; "Music Illustrated", Rinneradio; "Plus", Jarmo Savolainen Trio; "Songs For Trio" sekä Nordic Trinity; "Wonders Never Cease".

Emma is also nominated in the category for "Female singer of the year". Other nominees in the category are Tarja Turunen (former singer of Nightwish), Paula Koivuniemi (long time Finnish schlager artist) and Katri Ylander (from the TV-Show "Idols")

Emma has been nominated at the Emma Gala twice before, once in the jazz category with Quintessence, and once with Don Johnsoin Big Band. DJBB won two Emma´s in 2003 with their album "Breaking Daylight".

Emma started her studies at Complete Vocal Institutes 1-year-course

The course started in Helsinki 3.11.06 and ends in June -07. During the course Emma will study the different aspects of the technique, trying to learn to master the right support and all the vocal modes.

Don Johnson Big Bands third album sold gold

The album "Don Johnson Big Band" sold gold in October -06. The previous album "Breaking Daylight sold platinum in 2004.
