 Riitta Paakki Trio will have a new album "Onion" IMPALA 013 out November 1st, 2006. It was a real pleasure working with Riitta, Ape and Mikko. When beginning this project, I was relieved to learn that all the music was going to be original. I was then pleasantly surprised to hear how thoughtful and wonderful this material was. The piano trio format can be psychologically difficult for artists to record in simply because of the vast documented history of the medium. Playing standards in a celebrated style more often than not ends up sounding like a tribute to some well-known (and probably deceased) artist. Then there are the new flashy banging trios playing melodramatically on songs made famous by pop radio. Not only through the mature and distinct writing did Riitta’s group succeed in overcoming these dilemmas, they played in an honest and sensitive manner that can be difficult to find in a world that seems to be increasingly fixated upon either new hype or nostalgia. Q-CONTINUUM - one of the tightest funk/soul/jazz -bands around - has been working in the studio for a while (over 2 years...) with a hiphop -project called THE MARIENHOF. Featured artists are Father Metro, Axl Smith, Puppa J and Paleface. The album Q-CONTINUUM presents: This Is The Marienhof (Jupiter JUP 011 CD) is out now! The album is produced by mighty NESTOR and recorded at the most exclusive studios in Helsinki by legendary T-MU. Watch out Q is coming! The cover art is made by Mick Wil & Kainen, one of the most promising graphic designers in Kallio, Helsinki. Good work Mick !

 Columbia Music Entertainment has
released Quintessence's 5AM in Japan 2nd of November 2005. The
Japanese release has two bonus tracks recorded live at Soundtrack Studios
spring 2005. The tracks are Ballad in 6/8 and Delirious (acoustic

The long awaited debut soloalbum of Lauri Porra is out! Lauri (27) is a new bass player of Stratovarius and has also played in many other bands like Warmen, Kotipelto, Torpedo, Emma Salokoski Trio and Sinergy. The album is featured by the most respected players in Finland: Jussi Lehtonen, Tuomo Prättälä, Mikko Kaakkuriniemi, Timo Kämäräinen, Alexi Laiho, Janne Huttunen, Jukka Uljas, Jay Kortehisto, Emma Salokoski and Tero Lindberg. Gulfam Sabri (from India) plays tabla on one track. The album will include a bass solo version of Jean Sibelius' "Valse Triste". All other 8 tunes are Lauri Porra originals. |
